Check the Jan Soochna Portal Before Filing an RTI
Before submitting an RTI application, visit the official Jan Soochna Portal. The Government of Rajasthan launched this portal to proactively publish public information under Section 4 of the RTI Act, 2005, allowing citizens to access many records without filing an RTI request.

Central vs Rajasthan State RTI
Before filing an RTI application, identify whether the information is held by a Rajasthan Government department or a Central Government department. Your RTI should always be filed with the authority that controls the records, irrespective of where the office is located.

How to File an RTI Online in Rajasthan
The official Rajasthan RTI Portal allows you to submit an RTI application online for all Rajasthan Government departments. You can log in using your Rajasthan SSO ID or your mobile number.
Step 1: Visit the RTI Portal
Open rti.rajasthan.gov.in. On the homepage, choose one of the following options:
- Login with SSO ID – If you already have a Rajasthan SSO account.
- Login with Mobile Number – Sign in using OTP.
- New Registration – Create a new account if you are using the portal for the first time.
Step 2: Sign in to Your Account
If you choose SSO Login, you will be redirected to the Rajasthan SSO Portal. Enter your SSO credentials and return to the RTI dashboard after successful login.
If you choose Mobile Login, enter your mobile number, verify the OTP, and continue.
New users can complete a quick registration by providing their basic details and verifying their mobile number.
Step 3: Start a New RTI Application
After logging in, click “Submit RTI Request” from your dashboard.
Step 4: Select the Public Authority
Choose the department or government office from which you want information. If the concerned public authority is not available on the portal, submit your RTI application directly to the concerned Public Information Officer (PIO) by post.
Step 5: Complete the RTI Form
Fill in the required details and write the information you want to obtain. You may submit your RTI application in Hindi or English. Keep your questions clear, specific and limited to information or records maintained by the department.
Step 6: Pay the Application Fee
Pay the Rs. 10 RTI application fee through the online payment gateway. If you are a BPL applicant, upload your valid BPL certificate to claim the fee exemption.
Step 7: Submit the Application
Review all the details carefully and click Submit. The system will generate a unique Registration Number. Save this number carefully, as it is required to track your RTI application and file a First Appeal if needed.
Step 8: Track Your RTI Status
Log in to the Rajasthan RTI Portal at any time to check the latest status of your application, download the reply, or view any communication sent by the concerned department.
Step 9: File a First Appeal (If Required)
If you do not receive a reply within the prescribed time or you are not satisfied with the information provided, log in to the portal and select “Submit First Appeal”. Enter your Registration Number, mention the grounds of appeal, and submit it online. No fee is charged for filing a First Appeal.
How to File an RTI by Post in Rajasthan
If you do not want to file your RTI online, you can send your application by post to the concerned Public Information Officer (PIO) of the department.
Step 1: Prepare Your RTI Application
Write your RTI application on plain paper. Clearly mention the information you want to obtain under the Right to Information Act, 2005. You may write the application in Hindi or English.
Step 2: Address the Application
Address your application to the Public Information Officer (PIO) of the concerned Rajasthan Government department or public authority. Make sure you use the correct office address before sending it.
Step 3: Attach the Application Fee
Attach the prescribed Rs. 10 application fee through an accepted payment mode such as Indian Postal Order (IPO) or Demand Draft (DD). If you are a BPL applicant, attach a self-attested copy of your valid BPL certificate instead of paying the fee.

RTI for Rajasthan High Court and District Courts
If you want information from the Rajasthan High Court or any District Court in Rajasthan, do not use the Rajasthan RTI Portal. The judiciary has a separate RTI portal at https://hcraj.nic.in/erti/, which operates under the High Court’s RTI Rules.
